Since the fourteenth century, when fashion cycles began in Europe, each era has developed a group aesthetic that reflects prevailing artistic and social ideals. What is considered beautiful and accepted as the desired and "natural" body is dependent on this particular aesthetic, which influences everything from great art to erotic fantasies. This illustrated talk discusses the evolution of these ideals, which have encompassed amazing changes such as that from curvaceous hourglass figure of the Victorians to today's emaciated supermodels.
