International Women's Day: "Empowering Women - Women Explorers Following a Different Path

Monday, March 9, 2015

Program Chairs: Cindy Williamson, Judith Gilpin

Prepare to be inspired by two long-standing Club members who are not content to stay inside the box: Suzanne Padilla and Cheryl Cvetan.

To mark her 50th birthday Suzanne hiked what is called a "Colorado 14er" - a mountain over 14,000-feet tall. So exhilarated by her feat, she took on Mt. Whitney in California and then hiked Peru's Macchu Picchu. For her 65th birthday she scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro. Says Suzanne, "The secret is the journey - and the empowerment that it gives me – along with a good shot of self-esteem and an identity that is NOT mom, wife and grandmother."

Being a natural-born fundraiser and networker led Cheryl to volunteer her skills at Prevention, Education, Inc. (PEI), a local Mercer County area charity founded in 1985 to maintain a safe environment for all children. Cheryl's fundraising committee has raised more than $50,000 help prevent child assault, sexual abuse, bullying, gang culture and cyber violence. Learn how she leverages her networks to help raise funds for this worthy charity.
