October 8, 2012
Program Chair: Bambi Kuhl
Opening the 2012-2013 program series is an evening with Ilene Beckerman whose first book (written at age sixty), Love, Loss, and What I Wore was not only a bestseller, but was adapted for the stage by the late Nora Ephron and her sister Delia Ephron AND was a huge, long-running off-Broadway hit. Since that feat, she has written several other books; her most recent being The Smartest Woman I Know, a loving yet hardly sappy tribute to her grandmother. To read her books is amazing; to hear her speak is exhilarating. Plan to arrive early – if you want a seat.

Canal House Cooking
February 11, 2013
Program Chair: Suzanne Padilla
Melissa Hamilton and Christopher Hirsheimer will discuss their journey and their point of view in the cooking and cook book world, which is about home cooking by home cooks for home cooks (and not about a restaurant chef's perspective on home cook-ing). "We want to encourage everyone—the way Julia Child and Marion Cunningham did for all of us for years—to cook, and to be good or better home cooks. We want to share, as fellow cooks, our love of food and all its rituals. After all, the everyday practice of simple cooking and the enjoyment of eating are two of the greatest pleasures in life." Enough said.
